My hands shrink in this toy store
noisy with the red of fire engines,
Asudden siren, a blink of lights
A whistle ends the rasping of trains
on their tracks; horses in carousels
move counterclockwise and i move back...
There is a tugging toward a blurry
racetrack, voices rising to their crests
then falling like bodies totheir seats.
Galloping horses, plumes of powdery earth
at their feet, give way to people with backs
turned, some heads dangling from their necks,
We walk out of the bleachers, a cold hand
tugging mine, and my little shoes
scuff the gray floor strewn with torn tickets.
I look up at a face pale in the glimmer
of the stairwell. the descending footfalls
like the patter of a horse about to stop...
I know that voice- my son who is three
comes with a box of sports cars, his fingers
curied about its flap; as we drive home,
out his throat comes the grate of cars
Zooming as they become a blur in the wind,
his hands racing as if they've no time to lose.
I choose this poem because when I read again and again, rhythmical sense touched my ears and lips. Continually it made my whole body revived musical mood, in the result, I was feel “crispy and rejoice.” When read this poem my breath was very comfortable; inhale and exhale were very regular.
Maybe this poem expressed persona’s children, who they are playing with their toys in the fourth stanza / my son who is three comes with a box of sports cars, his fingers curled about its flap/
Persona described the toys of characters; horse, track, race track first and second stanzas; siren/ a blink of lights/ rasping of trains/ racetrack, voices rising to their crests/ galloping horses, plumes of powdery earth/ at their feet, give way to people with backs.
This scene is like that one family was in the toy kingdom to buy toys for the three sons.
So last stanza they came home the three sons open box and took the ‘ sports cars’ and imagine their voice were so loud, exciting, and higher pitch. They are playing so enthusiastic and eager attitude; last verse / his hands racing as if they’ve no time to lose/ expressed enthusiastic desire to play it means time is not enough to play for them, they feel lack of time to play. It is related the title; come again another day; come quickly tomorrow for the play it is children’s feeling.
To extension this poem of meaning for me; “do your best for the work as if tomorrow have no chance for the today’s works, if it will come tomorrow to me there is also another work.” “Live your life with passion like children’s eager to play.”
